Supporting Climate Action Through Sustainable Solutions
At Crown Agents Zimbabwe (CAZim), we are committed to addressing the challenges posed by climate change and advancing the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With a particular focus on Goal 13: Climate Action, we work closely with the Government of Zimbabwe and our partners to implement practical, sustainable solutions that build resilience against climate impacts, particularly in vulnerable communities.
Our initiatives focus on the promotion of renewable energy and climate change mitigation strategies to help reduce the reliance on fossil fuels, with an emphasis on solar energy and its integration into Zimbabwe’s health sector.
Our Approach to Climate Change and Renewable Energy
- Renewable Energy IntegrationIn collaboration with the Government of Zimbabwe and other development partners, CAZim joined efforts for sustainable energy solutions, particularly for health projects to ensure reliable energy sources for critical health services and reducing dependency on unstable or polluting fossil fuels. These efforts are key in increasing the resilience of health systems to climate change while supporting the national shift toward cleaner energy alternatives.
- Healthcare Waste Management (HCWM)CAZim specializes in healthcare waste management (HCWM), an often overlooked but critical aspect of climate action. Through our research and development work, we have identified key gaps in HCWM and have worked on projects aimed at addressing these gaps. We work with governments and health institutions in developing and implementing sustainable waste management practices to minimize environmental pollution while ensuring public health safety. Our local CAZim associate consultants work extends globally, with projects in countries such as Cambodia, Iraq, and Botswana, funded by UNICEF, to improve HCWM systems and mitigate their impact on the environment.
Key Programs and Initiatives
1. Smart Solar Energy for Health
CAZim has been working with other partners and government towards integration of solar energy into the Zimbabwean health sector. By providing solar-powered solutions to healthcare facilities in remote and off-grid areas, we ensure a constant and clean energy supply, helping reduce operational costs and improve health outcomes. These solar solutions support the reliable operation of critical health equipment; like Vaccine Refrigerators, general lighting for health facilities including communication systems; all while reducing the carbon footprint of healthcare services.
2. Resilience to Climate Impacts
Through solar energy initiatives and other climate-resilient strategies, we aim to enhance the capacity of vulnerable communities to adapt to climate change. We focus on building the resilience of these communities by introducing renewable energy solutions, improving agricultural practices, and promoting water conservation and management techniques. By working with local governments and communities, we create integrated solutions that reduce climate-related risks and foster long-term sustainability.
3. Healthcare Waste Management (HCWM) Projects
CAZim has worked on several international HCWM projects, supported by UNICEF, to improve healthcare waste management systems in countries around the world. These projects focus on identifying gaps in existing waste management systems and implementing innovative solutions to minimize environmental harm. In Zimbabwe, we are actively involved in providing expertise and technical support to help local health systems adopt best practices in waste management, particularly in the context of growing urbanization and increased healthcare demand.
Our Impact
Expanding Smart Solar Energy Access
Through the successful implementation of smart solar energy systems in health centres, CAZim has improved healthcare service delivery in remote regions by providing reliable and sustainable power. This initiative not only supports climate action but also contributes to improving the quality of health services for underserved communities.
Strengthening Resilience
By promoting renewable energy and climate-resilient systems, CAZim helps communities become more adaptable to the changing climate, particularly in vulnerable regions. Our programs in solar energy and water management have made a significant impact on communities by reducing their environmental vulnerability and improving their capacity to cope with climate impacts.
Improving Healthcare Waste Management
Our global HCWM projects have led to the implementation of cleaner, more efficient waste management systems, reducing the environmental footprint of healthcare facilities. These initiatives help mitigate climate impacts by ensuring that healthcare waste is disposed of in an environmentally friendly way, preventing harmful pollutants from entering local ecosystems.
Why Choose Us?
CAZim brings decades of expertise in implementing climate change and renewable energy solutions, with a strong focus on practical and sustainable approaches.
